An update on Library Services Model.

At last Thursday’s Council meeting, the following motion was passed:

That Council:

(i) implement an Engagement Plan to seek feedback from the community in relation to the new directions and alternative Library Services Model as proposed in Section 4 of this report; and

(ii) is presented with a further report to consider community feedback prior to making any further decisions.

The proposal is to close the Mobile Library service that currently visits Underbool each week.
A range of alternative options that have been proposed include:
to establish a permanent library at the Ouyen service centre 5 days/week, with free internet access, free Wi-Fi point, self loans machine, with Ouyen service staff to support customers. There may also be a depot arrangement to small towns where online requests are delivered through post. Other outreach services currently offered are to be continued.
Community consultation will commence relatively quickly so we encourage you to think about the value of the library service to you individually and to our community.

Do you want the mobile library to continue? Is the new proposal of use to you? Do you have alternative ideas which you could raise with the Progress Group and with the library consultants who will be coming?

We encourage you to read the report presented at Council meeting. It is available on the council website http://www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Publications/Agendas-Minutes-for-Council-Meetings (p121-126) or on the Underbool website www.underbool.vic.au under: Directory – Government -Library proposed changes [click here].

We urge you to consider this issue and be prepared to offer your thoughts to the library consultants or talk to an Underbool Progress Group committee member (Fran Lynch, Sonia McVicar, Raelene Winslow, Kristen Brown, Joan Willsmore, Rosemary Jackson and Cassey Gloster) with feedback that they can pass on.

Thankyou

We would sincerely like to thank everyone who attended and assisted us on Saturday of last week when our home caught fire and was completely gutted. To the wonderful fire brigades from Underbool, Walpeup and Ouyen who attended the fire and who couldn't have done any more.

Thank you to our very special friends who came to our aid and supported us both emotionally and helped us retrieve some items from the house. Thank you to everyone who has visited us, called us, sent messages of support and who have sent food. Thank you to everyone who has assisted us in any way with the initial clean up and for helping us get our current living arrangements sorted.

The support we have received is evidence of why people choose to live in communities such as ours where everyone looks after anyone in a time of need. We want to let everyone know that we are both fine and our dogs Missy and Bella are too.
