Junior Tennis

I hope to continue with Junior tennis again this year with a slightly different program.

It will be run on a Monday night from 4pm til 5pm, proposed to start on 29th October through to the 3rd of December and then continuing on in the new year once school goes back.

The younger players will be practicing their ball skills with drills and fun games, while the ‘older’ players will do a warm up and then play a 4 game set with scoring and trophies / medals at the end of the season. The player will have to be able to hit/serve (a bit) to play, and will be at our discretion if they are ready for a game or not.

$2 per player each week, they MUST bring a full water bottle and be wearing sunscreen. Grade 3 and up. Extra parent help is also needed. Kristen has offered to take the older ones with the game, and I’ll be doing the drills with the younger ones. To enable this to go ahead, we are seeking more players - particularly older ones. Thank you to those who have already given me names, if there is anyone else who would like to have a go, please contact me ASAP - Kylie 0408393817.

I will also be sourcing some extra tennis coaching throughout the year. I will keep you posted.

Underbool Bowls

Twilight First Twilight bowls event for the season was held on Wednesday 3rd October. A very chilly evening but the camaraderie made up for the cold conditions.

Nineteen bowlers enjoyed playing for the magnificent Meat Trays kindly donated by North West Butchers of Ouyen.

A special welcome was made to Sue and Drew Knight, recent newcomers to our town. While Sue was happy to watch the play, Drew acquainted himself with a bowling green again after many years and both thoroughly enjoyed the company. A very nice meat and salad meal was much appreciated.

Winners of the evening on 74 points were Col Lockett, Jennifer Wakefield and Stephen Lynch.

Runners up on 54 points were Alan Stone, Ray Gloster and Dot Brown.

Robert Pole and Nita Wandel were also lucky recipients of Meat Trays.

Many thanks again to North West Butchers for your generous Sponsorship.

Saturday Pennant Underbool had a good overall win against Merbein, 78 shots to 54.  A BBQ lunch was supplied, with thanks to Col and Rhonda Lockett for contributing meat and salad.

Travelling to Workers for the October 6th Round 4 game, unfortunately Underbool went down by 11 shots.

Midweek Pennant Played Euston on the 1st October with a loss of 5 shots. Colleen Gloster’s side gained 2 points for the team.

Play against Irymple on 8th October resulted in an overall win for Underbool, 4 shots up, much to the delight of the team. Marie Cummings side won 28 to 20, and Colleen Gloster’s side lost 19 to 23.

The Stone girls were on a roll at Red Cliffs Star Day 27th September, when Jen Stone, Bernadette Stone and Wendy Stone came Runners/up. Well done ladies.

Good bowling to all.
