Underbool Bowls Club Opening Day for the 2017/2018 season commenced with a good attendance on Saturday September 9th. President Robert Gloster welcomed 23 players (with extras coming for the evening meal) and asked two of the Club’s newer bowlers to lead off with Anne Stone rolling the first kitty and Stephen Lynch putting down the first bowl.

Many thanks to sponsors of the day, fellow bowlers, Raelene Winslow and Robert and Merle Pole.

A great afternoon of bowls ensued with Alan Stone, Nita Wandel and Anne Stone declared winners on 73 points whilst Marie Cummings, Ray Gloster and John Stone were Runners/Up on a count back with 53 ½ points.

The day finished with a BBQ tea and delicious salads. Good to have John and Veronica Stone enjoying a game of bowls again.

Underbool Cemetery Trust  will be having a working bee this Fri., 15th Sept., 8.30am. The Trust wishes to say how much we appreciate the wonderful work done by the “friends of the Cemetery”. You go about doing work quietly without looking for any acknowledgement. Your work adds to the beautification & general upkeep of the grounds as well as making our job much easier. Thank you.

Following recent windy weather there has been artificial flowers blown around the cemetery these flowers have been placed in the rotunda for you to check to see if any are from your family member’s graves. A reminder also that due to O.H.S regulations it is not permitted to place breakable objects {eg:vases, glass ornaments} on lawn graves. Please remove these by 30th Sept. This is preferable to the Trust having to do so.

Underbool Press AGM

Office bearers elected were Helen Gloster (Pres), Sonia McVicar (Sec) & Vickie Manley (Treas).

We print 65 copies of the Press each week, as well as emailing out 110 copies.

Thank you to our Secretary, Sonia McVicar & our Treasurer, Vickie Manley.

Thank you to the thirteen typists who type and print the Press two to three times each during the year, your time is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the Underbool Primary School who allow us to print the Press each week, and to the staff who step in and help print when requested. Lastly, but most importantly, I’d like to thank Tamsin at the Underbool Post Office who collects notices and distributes the Press each week along with the volunteer staff at the Pink Lakes Pantry, Molly Stone and Nicole Kelly. Thanks also to Ron & Rosemary Jackson who upload the Press to the community website. Sonia will be doing this in the future and you will receive a link to the community website when you get the Press by email.

Prices to use the Press remain

$2 for a small notice

$5 for a quarter page notice

$50 donation for unlimited use (12 months).

It is disappointing to report that a number of groups and individuals are using the Press to advertise events but are not contributing to the cost of printing the Press. Our expenses were approximately $500 more than our income in the past twelve months, so please contribute when you use the Press so that we remain financially viable.

Helen Gloster (Pres)
