Underbool Progress Group

1.  Since the overwhelming response to the centenary Anzac service in 2014, there has been interest in identifying all service personnel from the Underbool/Linga district who enlisted for service during WW1 and later conflicts. While there are some names listed on the current Outen park pillars, it is strongly believed that it is fitting for all relevant persons to be acknowledged there. While the Honour Boards at the Hall are an internal form of memorial, Outen Park is an outside public area which is always open to anyone to be able to visit, reflect, remember and pay tribute to those who left from our local area to fight for their country.

Underbool Progress Group believes it is important to complete this memorial for accurate commemorative, historical and educational purposes and is currently working on a grant submission to properly fence the park and have additional pillars on the west and east entrances listing all names of local service personnel. The new pillars would complement what is currently there and would include special ‘slots’ to place a tribute.

UPG committee are looking for community support and would greatly appreciate if residents who are interested in this commemorative project could write a brief letter of support and send/give your letter to Frances Lynch, Kristen Brown or Sonia McVicar as soon as possible please. If you want to know more about the scope of the Outen Park ‘Anzac’ project, or want to show support but need help please ask.

2. Update on our community petition supporting the installation of a toilet at Outen Park, councillors voted

“That Council:

(i)                 consider the petition regarding public toilet facilities (Outen Park Underbool) as part of development and consultation process for the Public Toilet Facilities Strategy; and (ii) notify the first named petitioner accordingly.”

The consultation /review of public toilets is scheduled in 2016/17 financial year.

3. Library Services: Public consultation meetings re. proposed changes are to be held in October. The Underbool meeting is on Tuesday October 4th. Please put this date in your diary and plan to attend to find out more about the proposed changes and how they will affect this community. Your feedback is important in this consultation.

4.  Underbool website   www.underbool.vic.au  remember that our website has a lot of information for residents including services provided in Underbool, businesses, sporting and community groups as well as current and past issues of Underbool Press. The Underbool Calendar aims to provide a quick view of what’s happening in Underbool and to help with planning of events/meetings so that clashes can be avoided. Please contact Ron Jackson 0427946394 if you have suggestions for information that could be added to the website.
