News from MTHCS

 Aged Care Visits:

From 6pm on Friday 29th October, the Statewide restrictions mean that visitors to Aged Care are again permitted.  We will no doubt have many, many people who are keen to reconnect in person with their family members. Our key advice going out to community this weekend and ongoing will be for anyone wanting to visit residents to please continue to call ahead so that we can manage density limits at our sites, and so all visits are can be carried out safely for residents and our staff.  And to please be kind to our staff as we interpret the application of the new directions at MTHCS sites.

Please also be aware that:

  • Outdoors visits are encouraged, but if this is not possible, in-room visits can occur.
  • Vaccination is encouraged for all visitors to our aged care facilities, but at this stage vaccination is not a condition of entry. Where non-vaccinated people wish to visit residents, the visit should be outdoors if at all possible, and in-room if outdoors is not possible.
  • PPE appropriate to the location of the visit must be used.
  • All visitors must check in via the Services Victoria app, but a log of where visitors are attending on-site is also being kept.
  • Visitors should be requested to restrict their visit to one resident only per visit.

Although this is a happy time for residents and their families, it is also potentially a challenging time for staff.  Please be kind, but know that you are entitled to be treated with respect and to feel safe in your workplace at all times

Easing of restriction:  Some big changes are afoot in Victoria, as the travel restrictions for the Melbourne Metropolitan area are lifted and people can now travel freely around the State.  Of course this is wonderful news and moves us further down the track to what will be long-term “COVID-normal” – but it also increases the immediate level of risk to our community from potential new introductions of COVID-19 into Mallee Track communities.  The next few weeks will be busy, so please be extra mindful of continuing to do the things that have kept us safe right through this pandemic.

Get the air moving

As the weather improves, one of simplest improvements we can make to our infection prevention and control measures is with good ventilation.  Where it’s possible and safe to do so, think about opening a door, windows or vents to outdoors to improve the directional airflow in businesses, vehicles’ rooms and communal areas.

Do you need help accessing or linking your digital vaccination certificate?

Ouyen Neighbourhood house might be able to help.   Ask for a step by step guide OR book an appointment Ph : 0448734669

Could you help someone in your community this Summer?

If you know someone who needs assistance planning to leave early on extreme weather days or fire risk days – especially someone living alone in an isolated high risk area – then talk to them about how you could help.

Not everyone has a local support network, so think about people in your community who may need help with their preparations.

The Red Cross Bushfires: Preparing to Leave Early plan at https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/helping-people-leave is a great tool to use.  MTHCS can provide copies of this document if requested.

An emergency plan will help you to know what factors you will use to decide when to leave or when to stay indoors at home. It will get you to think about where you would go and how you would get there and who will you tell where you are if you do leave your home. Also what are your back up plans and when would you return to your home.

Your plan may be go to a family, neighbors or a friend’s house. We are going to have different plans for different situations.

The key to staying healthy in the heat is to keep cool and stay hydrated.  Should you be concerned about the up and coming summer and heat wave conditions please reach out to family, friends or neighbours about your plans.  MTHCS have procedures in place to monitor vulnerable persons during heat waves so please contact us should you like MTHCS to monitor you should heat wave’s occur this summer.

Underbool Linga Memorial Hall

With harvest about to begin it's hard to plan a working bee to weed and prune the garden area. If anyone can spare half an hour at any time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hany has offered to prune the viburnum outside the toilet windows. Thanks Hany!

Some jobs that need doing are:

  • remove 3 corner jacks
  • prune grevillea on west lane
  • weed under /around grevillea
  • weed along south car park area

Feel free to fill the green bin and put it out for collection.
