Australia Day 2026 - Underbool
A successful community celebration was held at the Underbool Swimming Pool from 6pm-8pm. Underbool Progress Group hosted the event and an Aussie BBQ with traditional sausages, hamburgers and onion accompanied by simple salad was enjoyed. Lamingtons, zooper doopers and icecream were a welcome dessert. Many enjoyed a cool off in the pool. It was lovely to see newcomers to town join in with long time residents. The Progress Group acknowledged the support from MRCC and Aligned Leisure to run the event.
Due to extremely high temperatures, no MRCC councillor was present. Instead, after the National anthem was played, president Joan Willsmore welcomed everyone and asked Sonia to tell people about the exciting upgrade of the pool due to commence after the current pool season finishes at the end of March 2026. This will include an access ramp, new pipes and skin, toddler pool renovation and a disability access toilet. The Swimming Pool committee has worked on funding grants for many years for this upgrade and are grateful for community support and especially mentioned the input from local children which greatly helped in gaining grant approval.
With temperatures in the high 40s to continue this week, the pool is sure to be a welcome relief.
