Underbool Progress Group

Since the overwhelming response to the centenary Anzac service in 2014, there has been interest in identifying all service personnel from the Underbool/Linga district who enlisted for service during WW1 and later conflicts. While there are some names listed on the current Outen park pillars, it is strongly believed that it is fitting for all relevant persons to be acknowledged there. While the Honour Boards at the Hall are an internal form of memorial, Outen Park is an outside public area which is always open to anyone to be able to visit, reflect, remember and pay tribute to those who left from our local area to fight for their country.

Underbool Progress Group believes it is important to complete this memorial for accurate commemorative, historical and educational purposes and is currently working on a grant submission to properly fence the park and have additional pillars on the west and east entrances listing all names of local service personnel. The new pillars would complement what is currently there and would include special ‘slots’ to place a tribute.

UPG committee are looking for community support and would greatly appreciate if residents who are interested in this commemorative project could write a brief letter of support and send/give your letter to Frances Lynch, Kristen Brown, Rosemary Jackson or Sonia McVicar as soon as possible please. If you want to know more about the scope of the Outen Park ‘Anzac’ project, or want to show support but need help please ask.

Underbool website   www.underbool.vic.au  remember that our website has a lot of information for residents including services provided in Underbool, businesses, sporting and community groups as well as current and past issues of Underbool Press. The Underbool Calendar aims to provide a quick view of what’s happening in Underbool and to help with planning of events/meetings so that clashes can be avoided. Please contact Ron Jackson 0427946394 if you have suggestions for information that could be added to the website.

Underbool Bowls Notes.

The Underbool Ladies Star Day was cancelled because of rain on Wednesday 21st September. So far three of the scheduled Ladies Star Days of the Sunraysia Bowls Association have been cancelled due to rain and rough weather. While the rain is great, we must get some fine weather again soon!

Division 2 Saturday Pennant against Ouyen on September 24th at home and played in showery weather resulted in a win of 22 shots up overall to Underbool. Well done.

Social bowl winners of this day were Marie Cummings, Bernadette Stone and Jeni Boseley.

Division 2 Pennant played on Friday 30th September (because of AFL Grand Final) against Mildura 2 was a closely contested game with Underbool going down by just 1 shot.

Good bowling to those ladies taking part in the Dot Jenkins Carnival in Sunraysia this Thursday and Friday. May the weather be kind to you.

Underbool Men’s Star Day on Sunday 23rd October. Catering list has been emailed out.
